The Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC) and Africa Early Childhood Network (AfECN) hosted this webinar series on “Accelerating Better Early Childhood Development (ECD) outcomes in Africa and Asia-Pacific regions through strengthened governance mechanisms”.

The first webinar focused on the results of a mapping study on governance and coordination mechanisms for ECD in the Africa region, which was completed in December 2021 with more than 100 participants from both regions.

The second webinar was held on 24th March 2022. The purpose of this was to understand the nature of multi-sectoral governance structures, which support ECD service delivery across countries in the Asia-Pacific and Africa region.

First part of the webinar focused on presenting the findings of the landscape study, looking at the presence of different models of multisectoral mechanisms (government, private or civil society supported or networks) in the Asia-Pacific region for addressing the needs of young children in an integrated way.

In the second part, a panel discussion presented and discussed examples of multisectoral mechanisms from the selected countries. The panel included two examples from Asia-Pacific region and one from Africa region to present their experiences related to how multi-sectoral coordination mechanisms support quality and comprehensive programming for ECD in the countries.

The key objectives of the webinar series were:
● To share findings of the landscape analysis on governance and coordination mechanisms for ECD in Africa and Asia-Pacific regions.
● To showcase best practices of multisectoral coordination mechanisms in the region, thus promoting knowledge exchange.
