As custodian agency of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 4.2.1, UNICEF was tasked with leading the development of a new measure to track progress toward achieving the related target. Following five years of methodological work, the Early Childhood Development Index 2030 (ECDI2030) was launched in March 2020 as a new tool to measure developmental outcomes among young children and for SDG monitoring and reporting.

This webinar took stock and reflected on implementation of the ECDI2030 over the past two years. The event included an overview and reflection on country uptake and implementation of the ECDI2030, including a presentation on testing of the ECDI2030 through computer-assisted telephone interviews in Nepal. Participants heard about the ongoing efforts of UNICEF and WHO to explore harmonization of the ECDI2030 and the Global Scale for Early Development (GSED).
