Description

Children and their caregivers constitute the majority of affected populations served by the humanitarian sector, and childcare responsibilities shape the way caregivers experience crisis and displacement. At the same time, we know that supporting caregivers during crisis is a means of protecting children from harm. But have we filly explored the potential of investing in caregiving?

During this event the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Proteknon launched Caregiving in Adversity - A Framework for the Protection of Children in Humanitarian Crises.

This new conceptual programming and advocacy framework helps to ensure the protection of children in humanitarian contexts by working with those who often impact their lives most - their caregivers. With conversation between representatives of the World Health Organization, the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), and the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action on working across sectors. With interventions from AfriChild, the Child Protection Area of Responsibility, and Save the Children, on how such a framework can be additive to our collective work with and for children.

The event featured a presentation on the new conceptual, programming, and advocacy framework, which aims to help ensure the protection of children in humanitarian contexts by working with those who often impact their lives most – their caregivers.

There was also a discussion by leading humanitarian voices on child protection and overall well-being on their efforts to support children and caregivers across sectors and contexts.
