Responsive Caregiving: Conceptual Clarity and the Need for Indicators
This article unpacks the term "responsive caregiving", providing examples of how it is universal and how the presence or absence of responsive caregiving impacts children's development. The article underscores the need to develop responsive caregiving indicators that can be measured through representative household surveys and through operational and programmatic measures that address the workforce, programmatic guidelines, and policies related to responsive caregiving. Processes for developing indicators include: mapping and reviewing existing indicators and their data sources; validating indicators in different settings; and prioritising their use for global, national, and programme-level monitoring.
