This seven week course starts 25 February 2021 (flexible). It begins with a review of basic ECD concepts and implementation programmes around the world, and looks at why some programmes succeed where others do less well, and what strategies are key for enabling widespread adaptation of quality programming. For those working around the world in early childhood development programmes, the course allows you to reflect and evaluate your own organization by reviewing real-world case successes, as well as a new global perspective from other learners.
On April 20th, the Hilton Foundation and their Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Partner (Stellenbosch University) hosted a webinar for partners in the Young Children Affected by HIV and AIDS Initiative. The aim of the online meeting was to create a space for dialogue with partners about the initial challenges and solutions in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Five presentations provided an in-depth picture of the situation for families and children at regional, national, and sub-national levels. The presenters shared what they are doing to mitigate the short- and long-term repercussions of the pandemic on children’s health, growth, and development.
Babies being born during the COVID-19 pandemic have entered the world at a time of confusion and uncertainty. New questions have emerged on how to protect the health and safety of the babies and those who care for them while also still ensuring that all babies get the best possible start in life. This webinar provided an overview of the global guidance, an analysis of how countries are/are not adhering to the global guidance, and examples of best practices from Vietnam, Brazil, and Colombia.

The Global Breastfeeding Webinar Series offers training to breastfeeding advocates on how to utilize social media to promote, protect and support breastfeeding. Created in the lead-up to World Breastfeeding Week in August 2018, the Webinar Series is intended for program managers, advocates and communicators who understand the need to boost the quantity and quality of content on breastfeeding.

>On 11th September 2019 USAID hosted a webinar on the science behind the first 1,000 days, brain development and nurturing care. Dr. Sarah Cusick, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota, provided an overview of how nutrient deficiency in the first 1,000 days can lead to long-term dysfunction and how application of the general principles of nutrient and brain interaction can help inform programming. Patricia Jodrey from USAID’s Child Health Team provided further context through the lens of the Nurturing Care Framework.
In 2019 ISSA and R4D introduced a needs assessment tool to support policymakers responsible for policy planning and personnel management of early childhood development programs around the early childhood workforce.
In May 2020 the Society for International Development held a virtual panel discussion with representatives from USAID, International Rescue Committee and PATH to explore how these organizations are using the Nurturing Care Framework in humanitarian settings, nutrition programs, and within the health sector – before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
