Ahlan Simsim is an early childhood development (ECD) initiative in the Middle East, launched by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Sesame Workshop in 2018. According to David Miliband, President and CEO of the IRC, it is the world's largest early childhood development program in a humanitarian setting. In December 2022 Ahlan Simsim passed a significant milestone: it has now reached more than one million children with direct services across Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

ARNEC is pleased to share the evidence from the Asia-Pacific region and the insights from experts and partners around the world exploring the deep interlinkages between climate change, environmental degradation and ECD to support the goal of enabling ECD systems and services for young children become more climate resilient, adequately funded, and their value better understood and considered by policy makers and climate scientists.

While there has been increasing attention in global public health towards designing and delivering programs, services, and policies to promote nurturing care, measurement has focused more on the components of health and nutrition, with less attention to early learning, responsive caregiving, and safety and security. This study provides a comprehensive review of the current state of measurement of nurturing care.

The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has more than 33,000 members across the country and is one of the largest professional associations of pediatricians in the region. In 2019, the President wrote about the important role pediatricians play in bridging science and parenting. Building on this, the IAP, working closely with the World Health Organization and UNICEF, have continued to draw attention to the important role pediatricians can play and are developing materials to support their practice.

In May-June 2020, Ummeed conducted a needs assessment with their partner community-based organisations across India by phone. It was to understand how parents and caregivers were coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as it related to their ability to provide nurturing care for their children.

UNICEF South Africa, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Basic Education and the LEGO Foundation have developed and distributed easy to understand early learning activity sheets for parents and caregivers of children birth to 5 years. The early learning activities are playful and can be easily incorporated into daily routines using low-cost/no-cost resources. The activity sheets enable parents to support the early learning and development of their children while at home during the COVID-19 lockdown. Translation into the 11 South African languages is underway.

The Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) is hosting three webinars looking at the Countdown 2030 Country Profiles for Early Childhood Development and how they are linked to the Nurturing Care Framework.

On October 28, 2019, Senators Roy Blunt (R-MO), Chris Coons (D-DE), Representatives Joaquin Castro (D-TX) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Global Child Thrive Act in the U.S. Senate.The Act will direct the U.S. administration to advance policies and programs that advance early childhood development internationally.

One year after the launch of the Nurturing Care Framework for Early Childhood Development, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank Group, the ECD Action Network and the Partnership for Maternal Newborn and Child Health are thrilled to share a summary of where and how the Framework has made its way around the globe.
