This event offered health policymakers, programme managers, emergency officers, MNCH programme implementers, health professionals, researchers, development and funding partners an opportunity to interact with Ministries of Health and implementers from 19 countries and to discuss strategies to strengthen health systems and enable them to respond rapidly and build back better.

This conference provided an opportunity to discuss ECD programs in Kenya, innovations and challenges, creating resolutions to establish a holistic/multi-sectoral approach for implementing the Nurturing Care Framework.

Following the release of a thematic brief "Nurturing care for children living in humanitarian settings", the Arab Network for Early Childhood (ANECD), International Rescue Committee (IRC), Save the Children, UNICEF and the World Health Organization came together to disseminate the brief and foster country-level action.

This meeting launched the thematic brief "Nurturing care for every newborn", which summarizes why nurturing care is essential for every newborn to survive and thrive. It outlined the five components of nurturing care and contained examples of practical actions to create and strengthen nurturing environments for newborns, including those who are born too soon, small or sick.

The U.S. Government Global Nutrition Coordination Plan and the COVID-19 Infant Feeding Research Interest Group (CIF-RIG) invited interested parties to attend a webinar on infant feeding during HIV, Ebola, and COVID-19. The hosts reviewed recent experiences in reaction to global infectious disease impact on infant feeding practices and began a discussion on how lessons learned might be leveraged to improve future readiness and impact.

The Nutrition subgroup of the Child Health Task Force hosted this panel discussion on lessons learnt integrating additional components of nurturing care with nutrition interventions in development and humanitarian contexts. Panelists shared experiences from multiple countries including Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Sudan.

The fourth national ECD stakeholders' conference was held in Siaya county and hosted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

This Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional event presented highlights from the World Bank’s new report: "Better jobs and brighter futures: Investing in childcare to build human capital". It reviewed the childcare context in MENA, and engaged policymakers across the region the region on challenges, opportunities and promising approaches.

In this webinar speakers highlighted key features of the IYCF Image Bank and explored how images can be adapted to fit various cultural contexts.

The WHO South-East Asia Regional Office, in collaboration with UNICEF, organized a 3-day virtual meeting to promote nurturing care for early childhood development. The meeting brought together participants from 11 countries, with participants including government delegates from relevant ministries (health, nutrition, education, child protection, women and child affairs), WHO and UNICEF staff and partners.

This webinar, informed by both detailed case studies developed by the Aga Khan Development Network and UNICEF programme implementation in Zambia with the support of the LEGO Foundation, provided a unique opportunity to engage with and understand the experiences of government, development partners, civil society, frontline health workers, and parents in Eastern and Southern Africa. What has worked? What has been adapted? What has been learned? And, perhaps most importantly, what does this mean for parents and children?

In this webinar speakers discussed the implementation experiences and emerging lessons of COVID-19 response strategies of seven programmes that prioritize nurturing care and early childhood development in their work. Findings of this work are drawn from a recent qualitative Case Study report, carried out by FHI 360 with support from the LEGO Foundation and in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the LEGO Foundation.

This seven week course began with a review of basic ECD concepts and implementation programmes around the world, and looked at why some programmes have succeeded where others have done less well. What strategies are key for enabling widespread adaptation of quality programming? For those working around the world in early childhood development programmes, the course allowed reflection and evaluation by reviewing real-world case successes, as well as a new global perspective from other learners.

In March 2021, the Africa Early Childhood Network (AfECN), World Health Organization and UNICEF organized a three-day virtual training for members of the Civil Society Forum on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (CSO Forum) on ECD and parenting.

With this webinar, the third in a series, ARNEC aimed to mobilise the ECD community in the region, particularly practitioners, policy makers, and advocates at the country level, to share local and/or country-level solutions which adapt nurturing care practices for ECD to the current realities and long-term effects of COVID-19.

Guest speaker, Professor Avi Sagi-Schwartz from the Centre for the study of child development at the University of Haifa, Israel, spoke on the importance of childrens' attachment in times of crisis.

On 25 to 26 February 2021, Burundi's Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, with the support of WHO, UNICEF, and the World Bank brought together government and non-governmental representatives from multiple sectors to establish a common understanding of ECD, generate momentum for working together, and solicit inputs for the multisectoral ECD strategy.

On 24 February 2021, the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, with the support of WHO, UNICEF, and the World Bank brought together the First Lady, Ministers, Parliamentarians, Mayor of Bujumbura, partners and funders for a meeting on early childhood development. The meeting highlighted the importance of investing in the early years for human capital and called on the government of Burundi to support finalization of a multisectoral ECD strategy centred around the concept of nurturing care.

In Uganda, maternal undernutrition and inadequate gestational weight gain are of growing concern. In this webinar USAID spoke about recommended implementation priorities for maternal nutrition, which align with and support the newly drafted Maternal, Infant, Young Child, and Adolescent Nutrition guidelines.

This webinar, hosted by the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Nutrition, was about the relationship between household and child factors, including diet quality, consumption of animal source foods, and anthropometry, to the early development of young Nepali children.

This programme sought (1) to STRENGTHEN commitment and technical assistance for child and adolescent health and to empower young people to advocate for their rights to health and well-being; (2) to MOBILIZE and strengthen cross-sectoral partnerships and innovation for child and adolescent health research, advocacy, implementation, and financing in the next decade; and (3) to SHARE evidence-based research, disaggregated data, and emerging solutions to ensure improved health outcomes for babies, toddlers, children and adolescents.
